I wrote this article the day after police arrested a man for manslaughter. His daughter’s death eight months earlier appeared at first to be an accident. But new evidence from a medical examiner suggested the man had killed his 2-year-old daughter. I wondered how a family, which has dealt with the tragedy of an accidental death for nearly a year, reacts when that death is deemed a homicide.
